~Student Performances and Reception
We will be working on music all week and will perform on Thursday June 20th at 1:00pm. Please come and support the students! Family and friends are all welcome!
~Please have your student arrive at 9:15am. Plan on picking them up at 3:15 everyday.
The focus of the camp will be percussion and musicianship skills through exposure, rehearsal and performance of a wide variety of percussion literature.
Details:
Please have your student arrive at 9:25am everyday. Plan on picking them up at 3:05 everyday. On the first day, students should enter through the main doors located off the main parking lot at the corner of Quebec and Montview (7111 Montview Blvd.). The first day we will meet in the band department hall at 9:30am which is located in the west side of the building. Parents feel free to come in the first day to meet the faculty. On the subsequent days, you can drop off your students at either the main entrance (east side) or on the west side.
Monday we will have a brief introductory meeting from 9:30-40ish AM which parents are welcome to attend. Following the meeting, Alejandro and I will want to hear the non-DSA students play snare drum, marimba/vibraphone and/or drum kit . VERY INFORMAL! THIS IS NOT AN AUDITION! It's strictly so we can make decisions about the literature we will rehearse and perform.
Final Performance:
We will be working on music all week and will perform on Thursday at 1:00pm in the DSA Band Department. Please come and support the students! Family and friends are all welcome!
Equipment:
STUDENTS MUST BRING ALL STICKS AND MALLETS THEY OWN!!! ALL students need to bring snare drum, keyboard and timpani sticks and mallets if they have them. If your student does not have a wide variety of sticks and mallets do not fret, we will have extra. Instruments will be provided.
Lunch:
STUDENTS MUST BRING EITHER A BAG LUNCH OR MONEY FOR LUNCH ($8-10 per day)
Located close to the DSA campus are several walking distance restaurants that both students and faculty will walk to together to eat lunch. This has worked fine in the past with DSA faculty monitoring all students’ activities. Please know that the faculty are watching all students and encouraging the "hang" which is essential to the camp and good music.
As well, students can bring their own lunches and come with the faculty and sit outside or in the restaurants as the owners are accommodating to our camp’s needs. The restaurants are located one and a half blocks away and we all walk over in a large group. Average lunch price is $8 or so. Please let the faculty know of any food allergies! Also, if bringing lunch, please try to reduce your use of single-use plastics!
Thanks for being a part of this great experience!.. Please let us know if you have any questions!
